I replaced lifters, springs and valve stem seals a few years ago. For each cylinder, I rotated the engine by hand and stuck a screwdriver down the spark plug hole, so it would ride on the piston and I could see it reach its apex. I used the pistons at TDC to support the valves and prevent them from falling in. So, anyone that tells you the 4,7 is not an interference engine is incorrect, because the pistons meets the valves. Yes, you still need a Lisle valve holder or the old rope trick to fully close the valve, for getting the keepers & springs on and off, but other than that, I let the pistons hold up the valves as I worked.

Started getting into disassembly of the engine yesterday and found that the passenger side timing chain was off. Probably the tensioner went bad but I don't have the front cover off yet. The driver's side chain was still on and looks to be in good shape. More to come. I will upload a pic soon. Hope the valves are good. At least if the valves got damaged, it may only be one side.
