Okay I’ve tried the cheap ones on eBay and it was a waste of money, it still chain slaps but intermittently. It seems that stock ones are in the $300 range.

so, are Cloyes any good?
or Melling?

On my last truck it was fine with the Chinese ones for about 3k miles and the passenger side eventually started chain slapping (4.7l knock sound) on the passenger side. Figured it was a fluke.
well apparently it’s not a fluke, they suck! My recent build has the same hydraulic tensioners and the drivers side does it.
I’m wanting to swap them out for decent priced ones that work and don’t fail immediately.

 

Cloyes usually makes good stuff, I have no experience with those though.
