Default P0463 - Solution?

I have had my dakota for about 4 months now and am very happy with it but about 3 weeks ago my gas needle started acting funny. I did the procedure to get any error codes by turning the key 3 times and this is the code it gave me - (463 Fuel level sender voltage wrong). I was wondering if anybody has had this problem and how it was solved. The only solution I can come up with is a new fuel sending unit and pump, b/c I beleive they are one unit. I would like to avoid this if possible . Thanks ahead for any help. By the way my truck is a 2001 4.7 v8 Quad Cab with A/T and 65,000 miles.

when i bought my dakota the guy told me that the gas gauge doesnt work anymore and just to use the trip meter to know when im low. That only lasted a while. i started using better gas and cleaners here and there and eventually it started working on its own. every once in a while it will drop to empty and beep at me but it will jump right back up after a second. so maybe try something along those lines. i didnt have a problem using the trip meter but it sort of fixed itself. hope thats some kind of help to you

Thanks for the reply Joelzy. Mine is the same way, it works from full to about 1/8th below full and from below 1/2 a tank almost to empty and I've been using the trip just like you said. I was just wondering if there was any kind of quick easy fix that someone had found. Thanks.
