Default Overdrive control

Finally got my '97 Dakota Sport going and ready to hit the road. Yes, it needs more work but the biggest problem has been taken care of. I was cleaning the inside and started looking for the OD lock out switch. My '93 had a switch on the dash. My '96 Ram has it on the shifter lever on the column. Is that where it should be on the '97 Dakota? I have a screwdriver handle taped to my shift lever in the Dakota. I'm thinking it got broken somehow and a previous owner just did a jack leg repair. How about replacing it? Can I replace the switch or do I have to replace the shifter arm?

yes it's on the end of the shifter. It's a simple 2-wire connection, should be 2 black wires that pop out by the shifter
