1998 Dodge Daktoa 5.2L Wont Start/Fuel Pump Not Priming/Fried ECM?
I have a 98' Dakota with the 5.2l. I was driving and then suddenly it died and now it'll crank but wont turn over. ***Backstory the power cable from the PDC(FUSEBOX UNDERHOOD) kept jumping off the battery post, so at times I would be driving off of the alternator or engine power. I was enroute to fix it then the truck died*****. The fuel pump isn't priming I checked the fuses and relays and they are good. The fuse box is receiving power. Could the ecm be fried? The gauges on the dash light up like there suppose to but no codes because of the constant obd2 reset due to the fuse box cable being loose.
Sure sounds like a bad situation. It's entirely possible that the PCM was damaged from the direct EMI off the alternator with no snubbing ability of the battery.
The ASD relay provides power to the fuel pump relay, fuel injector relay, and coil. The PCM pulses ground to the coil to make spark, and ground to the injector to fire them. fuel pump is static on/off with the relay.
Probe from a known ground to the positive (orange) side of the coil connector. When the key is turned on, that hot side should get a 3-5 second burst of power, then turn off. Likewise if you check from hot side of injectors to ground. Or in theory you might be able to feel the ASD relay energize for that 3-5 second period at key-on/engine off.
