So it looks like I'll finally be replacing the starter on my Dak. Temps dropped to about freezing over the weekend and when I went to start it, I got that single click. Battery is good. This starter only lasted 340K mi, so I'm a little bit angry at Dodge .
I'm going to buy a used original starter from a low mileage vehicle cause I think it will outlast anything I can find in a parts store, just like I did with the window motor. Just want to know if there are any differences between the 4WD starter vs 2WD starters. I remember the 4WD guys cussing about the removal process and wanted to know if it's just due to clearance issues, but using the same starter. This would broaden my search horizons.

Almost purchased a used starter from a 90K Ram on ebay. There were only pics of the truck, none of the starter itself. Something told me to e-mail the seller and ask him if the starter is original and if he could send me a pic of the Denso tag. His reply... "I just took a look at this one. It is aftermarket, previous owner must have changing it and we didn't catch it." Another seller told me it "didn't have a tag." So I moved to plan B.
Got one of these solenoid rebuild kits and I'm just going to change out the contacts and plunger. Single click usually means the solenoid has taken a dump. Now I'd love to change the motor brushes, but I can't figure out which to get. But then again, do starter motor brushes usually wear out? It's not like the starter is always turning, like an alternator would. A few cranks a day, I'd say. Will report back on how well this works.

The brushes DO wear out, but, it takes a while. While you have it out to do the solenoid, might take a look at the brushes (take a pic or two...) see if you can match 'em up to something.

Don't know how adventurous I'll be without a spare starter laying around. Be just my luck I take it apart and it falls apart, or I screw something up. If you send me yours, I'll break it down and do a video with music and all. LOL

I used to have a couple spares layin' about..... all gone now.
How many cars have you owned with these Nippondenso type starters where you've run out to buy a new starter when it started making that single click? I know I have done it probably quite a few times. Well we won't be doing that any longer.
Adding some videos on how to replace the solenoid contacts. Really easy and the Victory Lap solenoid repair kit is made in the USA, I just realized.

I went with a new mini-high torque with the header install, guess it's been about 11-12 years since.
The old one was working fine and gear teeth look great.
About the time I get rid of it ... well you know, I aint even going to say it.
