I have leak at the fuel rail connection point. The service manual says do not try to disconnect the hose from the fuel rails due to the design of this connection hose. The connecting hose looks like it is a fitted nylon hose using heat. A shop tried to repair but it has since failed again and I don't like fires. The fuel rail is discontinued and I cannot find its replacement anywhere. Suggestions?
The fix below was my attempt to fix a larger leak that mostly worked. I added protection from the heat as that was part of the problem with the shop's attempted fix.
A related thread popped up in this thread that provided the information I sought. As it turns out, the leak was coming out of my fix. Thanks for the help.
When I cut out the nylon tube from the fuel rail, I discovered that someone had put a rubber tube (shim) over it and then a fuel hose on top of the shim to match the inner diameter of the fuel hose.
As suggested, the fix was a 5/16" fuel injection hose and two worm hose clamps per side to engage the connectors' barbs fully. I covered the whole thing with heat protection. Removing the carburetor cover made it easier to access this time around.
Are the clamps fuel injection specific? If they are, you should be all set. If they are not, replace them with ones that are. It's "high" pressure, and you do NOT want a fire.
