Default Electrical issues

Not really sure if I have second or third generation but I do need help please. I bought this truck a few months ago and had nothing but trouble so far. But now it seems that I have half my fuse box working. On some of my fusses my test light shows red and on others it reads green. I have traced it down to find out that my alternator has a red light reading coming from it. So I disconnected it completely but still attached to truck. I still get a red light reading but if I disconnect it from the fuse box it's self then I get all green only on fuses. I don't understand. Doesn't the red light mean it has a short? The reason that I am in the fuse box is because my OD in the transmission has no power and running in 2-and 3 gear. It won't shift. Please help

Green means the test light sees power. Red means it sees a ground. If you are poking something that shouldn't go to ground, need to find out why it does.

So it's ok for the fuses to read red?

Some should be hot at all times.... Others will be hot with ignition on. Depending on how you are testing..... that *might* be correct, or not...... Hard to say from here.
