Default Steering Column?

Upon accelerating from a stop, and braking, I feel a "clunk" in the steering wheel/column. Just started
a couple of days ago. I haven't investigated yet, but intend to very soon. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Could be lots of things. Start with a thorough inspection of the entire front suspension and steering.

Probably a bad upper control arm ball joint or upper/lower control arm bushing. Also check your steering rack to ensure its not loose/rusted out of its mounts. Hopefully its just the ball joint as those are easy. If its the bushing your in for a fun job especially if its the lower arm.

OK thanks I've got somewhere to start, appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Update: I replaced the "intermediate" steering shaft, the "clunk" is gone and the feel
of the steering is much better. It was not a difficult job, except breaking loose the old
bolts took some effort.
