Default Dakota 5 Speed Swap

I'm interested in the long term reliability of the 5 speeds that were offered in this generation of Dakota, I understand it was the AX15, NV3500, and NV1500. I have a 1977 Dodge D100 with a 318 and 3 on the tree and I'm looking for a replacement for the 3 speed. The engine that is going into the truck will have, roughly, 300-350hp, nothing crazy just enough to have fun while being able to haul a load of gravel here and there. My buddy says that the bellhousing off of a 5 speed 318 magnum will mount directly to a 318LA engine with no adapter plate. So I guess I'm just wondering if A it is possible, B the reliability of those 5 speeds , and C would it be worth my time and effort? Thanks in advance.

The NV3500 isn't that strong of a trans. If you want longevity, look for the NV4500. That should stand up to the power.

I agree with HeyYou. 3500 will indeed work and bolt up. 4500 would be more preferable if you can find one.
