Learning more and more everyday on these dodge's, but never heard of a central axle disconnect before and will Google it. I know I have scene exploded views and parts list of the 2001 Dakota front axle. Never scene anything that looks like a activating mechanism. Just a normal differential, housing, CV's and wheel bearing assemblies.

What year is your truck? Entirely possible you don't have one..... And electric shift t-case? Never been a fan of those.

Nope. no CAD on yours.

I would still be tempted to test for slop in the t-case chain..... I know my 96 4x4 would make some pretty rude noises in 4x4 around corners.......

Update: Transfer case had to be replaced. There was extreme play in the front drive shaft out of the transfer case. Both side to side aswell as in and out. So the gear would not slide fully (engage) onto the shaft and mesh into properlyto make it to work. It only only "grinding" on the shaft while rotating. So no loose chain skipping on the sprockets/gears. So hopefully if someone else comes across this problem, this info can help them out.
