Default Drum to disc conversion.

Hello everyone,

I have my fathers 2001 Dakota Sport 3.9L V6 M/t Quad Cab RWD.

Trucks needs a lot of work and want to do drum to disc brake conversion.

Should I go with the kit they sell online?

Or would it be possible to get the rear axle assembly from an 03-04 since I heard those came with rear disc brakes? Would it be a straight forward swap? Or would the truck have to be the same as in same engine, transmission, model, trim and etc for the swap to work? What other miscellaneous parts would I need like brake lines from donor, parking cable, and etc. I’m new to these trucks so I don’t know much about them.

thanks in advance for any advice

3.9 should have an 8.25" rear axle.

You'll want to find an 03/04 8.25" RWD rear axle. 4x4 axle won't work and a 9.25 I think will make the driveshaft a touch too long (but i could be wrong on that...haven't had them side by side to check).

The SSBC kit is rather overpriced. There are a few people that have done the viper conversion and even fewer who go junkyarding and sell the components from 03/04 trucks.
