Default 98’ 3.9l intermittently stalling at idle or taking off

122,663 miles new battery bc i thought it had a dead cell causing the stalling problem. After it stalls out the only way to start it is to hold the pedal all the way down n it start n kill a few times before getting it to finally start then you have to hold it at 1500 rpm to clear up n put it in gear. (I know not good for the tranny). Sometimes it stay idling fine and as soon as you put it in gear it kills. I noticed my temperature gauge isn’t working either when it acts up. Pulled the MAP, IAC valve, TPS all off n all good clean no build up and the throttle body is clean too, i pulled off number 1 plug to see n it was a good shape no oil on it. I even unplugged the MAP while it was running n it’s working bc it ran terrible with it unplugged. I checked the temperature on the cat converter to see if it was plugged and the inlet was 100 degrees less than the outlet so its working fine. As of now no check engine light while its acting up. I don’t want to get start throwing parts at it. Any help would be great!

Check the 2 wire temp sensor, make sure it is well connected, and hasn't fallen apart from the heat of it's environment. Should be next to the thermostat housing, though, it might be on the passenger side of the intake, by the heater hose as well...... Your truck should only have one temp sensor....

Separate issue. Wouldn't hurt to check/clean both ends of the ground cable though.

Default When temp gauge doesn’t work truck wont run

So i been driving the truck last 2 days and realized everytime it stalls n wont start back if is everytime the temp gauge just shuts down. I made sure the temp sensor was on good but once i get home ill pull it off and test it n make sure the heat hasn’t messed it up. Im praying it’s not the pcm going out on me, i can still see the seal sticker on the pcm so maybe its been replaced already bc the teuck almost 30 years old u would think the seal sticker would look all ate up n wore out but it looks newer.
