Default Idiot waterpump-timing chain

Got a 98 5.2 dakota , replaced waterpump and like a idiot didn't pay attention to bolt locations and ran a long one in with a impact ...busting the waterpump, timing chain cover and cam gear . So I get to do the timing chain , I was wondering since I had moved the crank shaft getting things off if I can still just line my timing dots up and go or if its possible to get 180 out . Any help is appreciated

How far did you move the crankshaft? IF only a little bit, just align the dots, and call it a day. If a lot..... Put number 1 at TDC in firing position, make sure the distributor rotor is pointed in the right spot, and put it back together.

You probably just moved it a little bit. Just realign the marks and you should be fine.

For future reference, I save old small boxes and sheets of cardboard and make a map of where the bolts go. Cut a small slot and use the new gasket to make an outline of the pump or other part you're installing. Put each bolt in the corresponding slot. It keeps them in the proper place and they also don't roll away on you. As many times as I've replaced water pumps and such, it's still a handy habit to get into.

Just a bit when taking fan clutch and all off , that's exactly what I did . Went and found which bolt goes where and made a cardboard holder for when parts get here I don't do that again like a moron .

Learning does not make you a moron. Doing it repeatedly is different. Otherwise, it's just getting experience. Over the years I've done a lot of things, thta in hindsight were not the best course of action.

I assume you didn't run it after this, but if you did, check for coolant in the oil.

Just make sure things are set right..... Gears are dot to dot, and distributor is pointing at the correct cylinder.... Which I *think* is going to be number 6 when the gears are dot to dot.....
