New to this site and not seeing anything else online. i have a 02 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 and 45rfe. i just had the transmission rebuilt. currently stuck with the gear selection all being boxed and no start. i have swapped between the late and early model shift solenoid packs and used the corresponding shift plates with them. both end up with the same. shift cable has been adjusted multiple times, battery disconnected for over 2 hours. i am not able to get any codes on my code reader and i have tried the dash trick. holding the button in and turning the key to the on position. has anyone had anything similar or any ideas to proceed? my next step is to have my tcm reset with my works scanner.
Trans range sensor failure, or communication failure. If the computer doesn't know what gear you are in, in won't engage the starter motor.
Welcome to DF. Moving this to 2nd gen dakota section for ya.
Thanks for moving me, what I'm struggling with is no seeing any codes for those. there should be codes correct indicating that there's something wrong? and is there a pin test for the tcm that i can do? i have used one for testing the pcm. im disregarding its the range sensor failure since there was nothing wrong with the og one before rebuilding it. and it does the same thing with both the og and a refurbished one i bought (white connector).
I don't know how communications works on your truck. Think I would check and see if the PCM can see what gear it's in. (doubtful) If you get the same behavior from two sensors, probably a wiring issue then. Should be able to find wiring diagrams for your truck here.
