Default P0720 Output Speed Sensor - HELP!

Hey guys - I have a 1999 Dakota with the 5.2. for a while now i’ve had an issue where i have a check engine for the output speed sensor, and it causes a very strange issue where my speedo goes all wacky and from a stop it will often just not shift into second and continue revving and shifting weird. I have to pull over and turn the truck off and turn it back on for it to work, often until i stop again and it does it again. I have replaced the sensor ages ago when it first started and it still persisted, and recently i figured it may be a broken wire as that circuit doesn’t ground to anything so i ran new wires to the sensor and it still didn’t work. I have also replaced the ecu and it still didn’t work. I’m kind of at a loss and would like to fix it so if anyone has any suggestions please help. Thank you!

Which sensor did you replace? The one in the trans, or the one on top of the rear diff?

OK, that's the right one according to the code. But, the speedo is driven off of the rear wheel speed sensor on the differential.....

yeah i’m really confused as to what’s going on. I guess could it be possible my rear wheel speed sensor is messing things up for me?

I would suspect more than one problem. Replace the sensor on top of the diff, reset the PCM, see what happens.
