Default AWD to 4WD conversion

Hey all,
Just found your site, good info. So I have an 2000 Dakota QC AWD and I have never had any real 360 CI get up and go power. I've done a few thousand in mods and a few more in repairs - all to no real avail[:@]. Motor seems real strong still at 115K, no noises anyway and smooth acceleration. Only thing left is that AWD unit.. I have drove several stock 4x4 5.9L's and the ones with 3.92 gears ran like a bat outta hell.
So if it's not gonna be too much a pain, I am lookin to swap mine out. I'm hoping I can get one from a '97-2004 dakota or durango to be a direct replacement. I know the shift pattern is opposite as well.

Anyone have any experience or can give some advice?
Also, just to be sure, I am going to check the compression and change the plugs again before I do the swap.

Thanks alot,
2000DakotaQC

Current ride: 5.9L, AWD, new 4.10 gears, 32" shoes, K&N CAI, ACCEL 8.5MM wires, and brass cap/rotor, Rancho RS9000x w/ in cab remote, 3" cat-back, dual out Vortech with 18" quad stainless tips, newly rebuilt tranny, AMSOIL everywhere, white face gauges installed.

MSD 6A ignition and 40Kv coil in garage.
