ticking in engine compartment on pass. side
2001 4.7L QC 4X4 103,000 miles.....anybody got a clue what the noise may be (from experiance i think its the valve slack adjusters) It's driving me nuts!! No performance loss just noisey! Any help would be appreciated.
Does it get louder when accelerating. If so, it could be the fuel injectors. They can sometimes be noisey. Mine are doing the same thing.
Also, if the noise goes away, it could be the lifters. Lifters will go away when reved up.
Good luck

So if what you are saying is that it get louder when reving up the engine. That sounds like the connecting rod is hitting the block. Get yourself a wooden dowel about three feet long(or so). Clamp you hand around it with one end of the dowel flush with you fist and put it next to your ear. Go around the engine till you locate the sound. You will difenitely hear the sound get louder when you find it. If the sound is hollow sounding that gets louder when you rev the engine. You have some rod bearings going out. That is what it sounds like. But to make sure, us the dowel to pin point the sound. Start at the top of the engine and work to the bottom.
Good luck.

yeah i here the same noise in my r/t. It seems like it is really loud when i use 87 octane gas, but gets less noticable/loud when i gas up with 93 octane. Is this ticking noise bad or is it going to hurt my truck?
Thanks

Dave,
You need to check with the dealer to see what the octane rating is for that truck. It sounds like you need a tuneup and run different gas. My truck will only run good off Chevron gas. 76 pings, Shell pings, and arco pings. Only Chevron runs good.
Good luck.
