Default LOng Tube Headers ???

New Memeber here would like to say hello to everyone.

Just purchased a super clean 2000 4X4 4.7L V8 Red Club Cab Dakota with 23,000 original miles. I am really liking it.

For my first mod, I just installed a Alpine CDA 9856 Radio Head Unit in and hooked up my IPOD to it. It sounds pretty good even with the cheap stock speakers. Speaker replacement is in the very near future.

Anyway I can't seem to find "Long Tube Headers" for my 4.7L V8. there are plenty of short/y headers out there but I am having a hard time locating the long tubes. Anybody have any tips?

thanks in advance and again hello,

Matt

I dont mean to be the bearer of bad news, but, theres not even any sets of long tubes for the 360, well, at least none that fit good, and its been out forever. Im pretty sure no one makes long tubes for the 4.7 Sorry man.

But, if you gotta get shorties, go with Mopar.

I'm thinking you can't get Long Tube headers for the 4.7. I could be wrong tho ... Seems like I've seen a set of LT's before on either SummitRacing or Jegs, but I'm pretty sure it was for the 318. Also, apparently that engine you have is sensitive to exhaust changes (from what I've read on other sites) - Just something to keep in mind I guess. In either case, good luck & keep us posted on what you find!

In reading you rpst I wanted to ask you about the problems with the 4.7L and the exhaust changes issue. I have been told about this but I cannot find any information on the web. Could you please embelish on this idea some more for me? I would appreciate any information you have on this exhaust issue with the 4.7.

Thanks,

DeadlyDakota

What size engine is the 360 in liters?

By the way I think your going to love those headers and actualy feel them once you install them. I think long tubes provide the greatest gains in HP as far as exhaust manifolds are concerned.

360ci = 5.9L V8 (R/T). The 4.7L V8 is 287ci.

That was the promotional picture from the company that sells them - mine were installed back in July 2005 along with a custom mandrel-bent 2.5" dual exhast with an h-pipe, Hooker Aerochamber mufflers, and Catco high-flow cats. I liked the setup a lot, but recent events led me down the path of stripping the truck back to stock and as soon as I'm done with the last few parts it will be up for sale.

Here's the pic of them installed (sorry it's a bit fuzzy):

Good plan of attack on your part going with the full exhaust options. I did the same with my Vette. I installed full long tube headers, high flow cat conveters, an x pipe (instead of the H pipe, on the vette the x pipe is better) and corsa mufflers and tips. I gained 41 hp and 38 trq on the dyno. A also gained 2 miles per gallon in fuel savings.

Boy, I wish I could get true long tubes for my Dakota. Some on this thread have given up some tips on who to ask. I'll be emailing them soon.

How much did you gain with your exhaust install? Did you dyno before and after?
