Default ABS???

I have a 98 dakota. The ABS light comes on normal when starting or turning the ignition on and goes off like it should. This winter I have tried the brakes on ice and the ABS don't seem likes it working....I can lock the wheels. I have no ABS light warning of any kind. Am I missing something here? I don't know if it's working or not??? Appreciate any input that you may have...Thanks!

Well, it kinda depends. Our Dakotas come standard with REAR ABS but FRONT ABS is optional. Look behind your front hubs and see if there is a wiring harness coming from them. If there isn't, you don't have front ABS and therefore can lock up the front end from heavy braking.

Wouldn't it make more sense to put the standard ABS on the front and not the back, from a safety standpoint? I'm guessing they did it the way they did for cost, instead.
