Default Exhaust

Im trying to figure out which exhaust i want to get for my 98 dakota 5.2. I dont want to spend too much, but i want something decent. I went to check it out at a local truck store and the guy told me i would be better off getting it custom done at a muffler shop. He said they would just cut off my old one and make the piping themselves and i would get the same results for wayy cheaper. Im not sure if i should follow that or not. I want my truck to be decently loud, but not enough so it gets annoying and ruins music inside the truck. I also am hoping to find which way would get me more power(i know it wont be that much different though). What do yall think? Should i go with a custom job or buy some flowmaster or something? I just dont want to spend too much money but i want to get the best i can for a decent price. Could i install a aftermarket exhaust myself with no welding? If i should buy aftermarket, which one should i go for?

I just bought a setup off ebay for my 1997. Flowmaster with the Series 40 Delta....here's the item # 8054384569 for $259.99.

I priced out a custom job today and it came in @ $520.00 plus tax! "Blah blah blah...I can get you a better system than the Series 40" He had nothing to offer. Some shops are so Stupid and ignorant to the fact that they have to compete with the net whether they like to or not.

I was looking for the exact same performance and needs you are, so you may want to check it out. And yes, DIY install looks easy.

Good luck, Paul

I have flows 40 series on my truck. It sounds good but not too loud....not like a redneck truck or anything. Flows sound great, last a while, and are relatively inexpensive.

The Flowmaster system is very nice but it would be cheaper to go with the muffler shop and a flowmaster muffler .

well some may not like it, but i got tired of the crappy sound my exhaust was making so i took off the piping with the muffler(i think the muffler was busted or something?) on it. its really loud, but i like the overall sound. i want to quite it down a little bit though. it does seem to have made a noticable difference in power though. seems like its not so choked up anymore. im not sure what i should do to quite it down a little for cheap?

check out a magna flow it isn't as loud as a flowmaster but it is a straight through muffler instead of chambered like flowmasters are . add a good intake and your engine will gain some decent hp's and a mean sounding growl
