It sounds great as long as you accept that you are hearing a big V6, if you are looking to make it sound anything like a V8 other than at idle it just aint gonna happen.

just remember the bigger the muffler you go the more interior noise you are gonna hear. in the gen 3 site people are complaining about the flowmaster noise. it sounds great but at times the noise is nerve racking. i have the 05 4.7 with the imco 3 inch single cat back sweet sounding and nice hum at idle. if you go to there web site they have a section where you can listen to the different exhaust for different trucks

its gonna be a flowmaster 40 series single in dual out muffler with 2.25 pipe that should work fine.

i have been reading a lot about spintech mufflers. some people seem to really like them and some dont. any thoughts? i really want to buy a new muffler for my 99 dak 3.9l v6 4x4 5 sp. manual, but i dont know what is the best deal is as far as only spending around 180 give or take. all i really want is a nice loud exhaust that sounds cool. does the flowmaster 40 or 50 increase hp or mpg at all? also, my friend, who mind you is in love with rice burners and hates trucks, says that it would be a better idea to spend my money on headers. he says it wont hurt my mpg and will increase hp dramatically, any opinions?

I wouldn't call the increase dramatic, I think I gained somewhere in the neighborhood of 5% with my headers.

Basically you're going to see the most gains if you get a decent flowing exhaust - headers, high flow cat and muffler, reasonable pipe diameter, especially if it's combined with intake mods to compliment. Every part will help, but no one part is going to be outstanding.

im installing a flowmaster 40 series on my 4x4 5 sp. manual v6 on monday, does anyone have a stick shift with a flowmaster 40 on it? does anyone think that the noise will be too loud inside the cab? i really want a nice sound, but if its just gonna be annoying in the cab then i dont want to do it, anyone have problems with the noise?
