im taking the brakes off of my 1997 dakota 3.9 4x4. the front rotors need to be replaced. i can get everything off except the hub nut. if the 4x4 isnt engaged the rotor just spins freely. i put it in 4x4 and tried turning it but when it didnt brake loose i didnt wanna try to turn it to hard and brake the transfer case or anything. any ideas? do you have to have a special wrench or something?
do not remove the hub nut otherwise you have to replace it the rotor is separate it may take a little force to get off i replaced my rotors and the passenger side was a bitch to get off unless you want to get a new nut from dealer ($10.00 each) just my opinon
ok i uh unfortunatly i pulled the nut off the driver side. why cant you pull the nut off? i cant git the rotors off and iv pryed against them time and time again and they havnt even budged
ok well the driver side was so hard to get the rotor off. i had to take a wood splitting wedge and drive it in the to break it loose. i havnt done the pass. side yet
God damnit haven't you ever heard of a gear puller? a 3 arm puller a 13" should be fine. There are also special tools, but they cost a lot more than a gear puller.
well i was running out of time to get it to the inspection station i had to get it there that day and didnt have time to go get a puller. so i had to do the pass. side the same way. i tried just tapping that side off but yet again it didnt come off and i had to use a wedge. but its all done now. i hads always wondered why the truck had trouble slowing down and it failed inspection. oh and about taking it to someone...i can do pretty much anything. and i dont feel like payin 80 dollars an hour for as little trouble as it was. in 10 minutes i took the pass side tire off, had the calipers off and had the rotor off.
