Default I am out of ideas I really need help

Okay I am having an issue with my 98 dodge dakota 2 rwd 6 cyl.
The truck will bog if I put it to the floor and the tranny will not shift unless I let off. It's like hitting a brick wall, no power at all. It will occasionaly throw a misfire code. Last time is was the cylinders on the drivers side.
I have replaced everything I can think of. Here is the list lol
new coil, cap, rotor, wires and plugs
new fuel pump
changed the filter in the tranny and tried some lucas additive.

Car cranks and there is no stumbling, just loss of power. I hear a vrooooom sound coming from the engine as it bogs like when you run an open filtered intake.
No change .. please throw me a bone here and give me some ideas.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, when you changed out the transmission filter....were there any metal fragments? The 2nd Gen Dakotas were pretty well known for tranny issues....and that could easily explain the shifting/power loss.....

I'd also check your o2 sensor and the throttle body/air intake...

EDIT: I'd also honestly suggest having your block looked at however, as if one of the lifters is going or if you have a blown head gasket or if any of that is going out/messed up....its a really heavy duty cost to repair...

I'd suggest going to a local (and trusted) tranny shop and have them hook it up to the scope to read the sensors. Sounds like there's something wrong there, not kicking down, bands slipping, torque converter shot, something along those lines. See what they have to say about it.

I read your problem twice. This *may* sound stupid but you did say
throw you a bone for ideas... I think I'd have the cat checked for
plugged..

When you said loss of power plus the vrooooom sound, it kinda tells
me the cat may be plugged...

Good luck and please let us know what you end up finding.

Well I took it to an auto place, They couldn't figure it out either. So I guess it's time to take it to the dealer and pay dealer pricing lol. There was not metal in the tranny and I think if it was slipping then it would rev higher. That not the case. It just bogs and dies. It only randomly throws check engine codes. It currently is not throwing any but the issue is getting worse. I don't smell any rotten eggs or anything from the cat. But still not ruling that out. This is indeed a strange issue.

Thanks,
Dan

Before you go to the dealer, unbolt the exhaust at the manifolds and drop the exhaust down, then give it a quick shot. It'll be loud as hell and you'll probably get a cat inefficiency code and the A/F might be off, but give it a shot. If it runs better, good news it's in the exhaust.

I would be willing to agree with tha latter comments, sounds like a cat issue. Another way to check is take a rubber mallet and hit the cat, if you hear a lot of rattle. That is probably the issue. Good luck, Chris

I will try the cat tomorrow. I was tinkering a bit today.. I took the air cleaner off the TB and tried to rev it in neutral. Even fell on its face doing that in the higher rpms. I don't feel like a loss of pressure at the tail pipe. The car sounds almost like its getting too much air it just makes this vrooommmmmmmm sound
