Default Airbag Wiring?

Long story short, 6 months ago I had Sirius Satelite radio installed by a reputable audio place here in town. Fast forward to a few weeks ago where my truck got broken into, they tore the deck and satelite radio out (got everything back, but there were wires everywhere). I put the deck back in but havent had time to put the Satelite radio back in as they had done all the wiring behind the dash.

A week ago, my air bag light in the cluster starts coming on, and staying on...so I take it to the dealership and they run a diagnostic test telling them that its the passenger side airbag. They take out my dash only to find out these tools at the audio shop spliced into my passenger airbag wire in order to power the satelite radio...when the guy who broke into my truck ripped everything out he exposed the wires causing them to touch and short out.

Now the dealership wants me to pay $96/hour (Canadian) going forward so they can pinpoint the problem and see if the passenger side airbag needs a whole new wiring kit altogether.

I'm obviously pissed at the audio place for splicing into my airbag wire, question is this, do I have a foot to stand on if I go back to them and demand money back for the installation? Do they not need my permission in order to go into an airbag wire? I was under the understanding that those wires are not to be messed with at any time.

I dont know much about the wiring of an airbag, or how it works, but it's kind of a **** off knowing Ive been driving the last 6 months with a radio wired into my airbags which could have caused it to go off at any time causing me thousands of dollars to replace. [:@]

well, in America we'd call the radio shop dumbass, and demand reparations
you are lucky it didn't go off on any passengers, you could add medical bills to the list
as for the foot to stand on, look down you actually have two, one to stand on, the other to kick some ***

if they don't give you your money back, or repair it free of charge, tell them your lawyer will send the dealers bill
if they call your bluff and don't do it , give the dealer their address to send the bill
good luck

WOW and I though the audio shops in this area were clueless. Why the hell would they splice into teh SRS wire in the first place? It doesnt take much wire to run it over to the damn fuse block and go off a power takeoff pin. They need to fix this free of charge or pay for it out of their pockets. I'm shocked that this didnt set it off. Or what could be worse is the bag didnt go off when you needed it to.

BTW ya might wanna look into whether or not that was legal for them to do in the first place. Generally tampering wiht the airbag system is a no-no in the US.
