Help!!!!!Charging system problem......
I have a 00' dakota R/t and i have been having problems with the charging system. What is happening is I just rebuilt the altenator and replaced the battery about 10 months ago and i just had it check and it was good. When the truck is turned on everything is normal: volts gauge at 14, idling fine. When i load it up (as in turning on accesories), the volts in the gauge begin to drop to about 10 and then the check gages light turns on and needle goes all the way down. Now this was happening before the rebuilt altenator was put in except it wouldn't even reach 10 volts and the light would come on. The guy that rebuilt the altenator told me that it was pretty burnt up inside and to make sure that battery was ok or see if there was a faulty voltage regulator. i don't know if the 5.9's carry one or not. Please i need help, it left me once on the highway and use it as a daliy driver. please post with info.................. Enlighten me

well if its none of the things that guy told you then what kind of shape is ur belt in cause if it slips it will slip more and more as u turn things on and not spin ur altenator had that problem on a lil ford ranger i know i know its not a dakota so dont everyone jump me for it lol but still all vehicles are similar as far as that stuff goes check it for cracks and stuff and if its not too bad spray on some belt dressing
I was thinking that it may be just that so i'm actually going to buy a new belt and see what that does.............. thanks
anymore suggustions, keep them coming..........

battery could cause that as well. even though the alternator is running everything is still connected thru the battery and if its messed up under a load it may fail.
