ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

but seriously its not cost effective to do it yourself unless you already have or can borrow the tools. I have the tools and was able to add A/C to my ranger for about $800. a dealer will charge you between $2000-$2500 for parts and install. if you know what your doing you can buy the individual parts on ebay and assemble it yourself. there are also companies that will make you an aftermarket kit. JC whitney has a kit for 97-2000

Lol you have been tryign to do this for awhile so let me put it to you striaght, yes you can go to a junk yard yes you rip the whole system out yes you can install it in your truck. the basics of any ac system are these 4 componets 1) the compresor 2)the condensor 3)the metering device and 4) the evap then the cycle starts all over again. Then of cource you got all the refrigerant lines inter connecting all this and of cource the refrigernat its self and refrigerant oil for compresor lube!!. So as long as you can incorperate the ac compresor into your engine belt loop system the rest is good to go and sicne you got a 4 cyclinder you got plenty of room. The compresor brand new will range any where from 350- 500 bucks. the condensor will probely be very close to the compresor in cost. then the evap probely 250-350 with all mounting hardware. Youl need a bigger serptine belt. Youl need the metering device. Then you will need rubber and alumnum hose and pipe. And most systems have a small acumlator before the compresor to keep liquid refrigerant from flooding back into the compresor and destroying it. which a accumaltor is basicly a long skiiny cylinder that allows liquid to sit in the bottom of it till it evaporates of into a vapor. Oh then you got to put your ac controls in aswell that is a easy junk yard grab. but its going to cost you no matter what way you do it. You be better of buying a kit. The tools needed will be stuff like screw driver, drill, pliers, cutters ect.ect. a vacum pump to pull the non condensiables out of system after all the system in connected (best to pull on both high and low sides of system at same time. a set of gauges to read your pressures (you have to get a speacial kind and in order to leagely get theses you have to be certifed on car ac haha so its bascily a giant pain in the ***. but hell if you wana go threw with it buy a kit find some 1 that nows whats going on offer him a price and sit back relax and watch your 4 cylinder become air contined!!! of coures for the price why not put a nice down payment on a slightly more powerful allready a/c equiped dakota.

well i dont realy want to sell it because i got it for $2500 and it was in good shape. all it needed was a new clutch ($200 and about 3 hours of work) i am 17 years old and about to start my last year of high school. i just dont want a car payment right now and i thought for a few hundred dollars i could put A/C in my truck....oh ya i dont even care that its a 4 cyl with gas a $3 a gallon you can laugh all you want. i dint buy my truck for speed or to show it off. i bought it to have reliable transportation to and from work and school. i want A/C cuz i sick of sweating my *** off

ahh i see not a bad deal and decent on gas. But unfounrlty if you want a/c be prepared to pay jsut as much for it as the truck was sadly. But hey on the bright side thats why they make fans get 2 or 3 of them stategicaly placed threw out the cab then put some dry ice in fornt of them old school a/c!!!
