Removing Fan on 99 Dak...HELP!!!
I'm trying to remove the radiator fan on my 99 Dak Sport Club Cab 4x4 with 5.2. The problem is the Haynes manual says counter clockwise, I read on another site that you should turn the nut clockwise. I've had no luck in either direction. As you are looking at the engine from the front of the truck, which way should the nut be turned to remove the fan? Also, where can I get the tool that keeps the fan pulley from turning when I try to remove the nut? I've installed headers, cat-back, TB spacer, cold air, lift kit, and micro-chip by myself with no problems. Can't believe a fan nut is keeping me from installing the electric fan!!!! Help![:@]
not sure on the rotation for your fan nut but as for the tool you can go to Auto Zone. They have a tool loaner program where you pay for the tool, use it, and return it for a refund!
From the manual:
"The thermal viscous fan drive/fan blade assembly is attached (threaded) to water pump hub shaft. Remove fan blade/viscouse fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from the front. Theads on viscous fan drive are RIGHT SIDE. A Snap-On 36MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) and Special Tool 6958 Spanner Wrench with Adapter Pins 8346 can be used to hold the pully still to prevent pully from rotating."
Included picture is the instructions per the manual.

Did you get the fan nut off yet? I just changed my waterpump yesterday and I used this trick. Spray the nut with some PB Blaster lubricant, get a long punch, put the tip of the punch on the edge of the nut and smack that sucker with a hammer. Three smacks and I was able to spin it with my fingers.
Fan is still firmly attached. I tried WD-40, heating it and beating it and no luck. I'm tempted to try grinding next. I put a metal bar with a pin in a pulley hole to stop the pulley from spinning and wacked my long crescent wrench with a mallet and still no luck. Part of the problem may be the fact that I read somewhere on the web that it was a reverse thread so I tried removing it clockwise. That must have really locked it up!!! Does that blaster stuff really work??[:@]
