14 miles per gallon -- OUCH

Sorry RP, But you must be taking my question the wrong way. I was simply asking what mods would HELP gas mileage. If i was bitching about anything it's about the price of gas ONLY. True there are people that buy trucks without doing the research on them first. However, this is my fifth truck, two of which were V8's so I'm very aware of average mpg.

I'm still laughing at people bitching about gas prices. Hell I paid the equivelent of $3/gal before I moved to the states from Aus back in 1990.
I get 15ish on my 2wd v6. Ride the bike 90% of the time during summer.
I have done the same mods (CAI and Exhaust) on my last truck 03 SXT V6 3.9L 4x2 4 speed auto w/OD and current 04 SLT V8 4.7L 4x2 5 speed auto w/OD and to be honest I almost could not tell any improvments in gas mileage on the V6 I think partly to being kind of under powered so I was always having to keep the peddle down to keep up with traffic most the time but the extra power the V8 has I don't tend to push the gas peddle down much unless I want to.....and get an adv. of 3 more MPG with those 2 mods.....I got 15/16 with the V6 and had the stock 265 tires....but I would say the things the make the most differance for helping gas mileage like CAI, exhaust, chip, and such are worth it in the long run seeing what gas cost now days.

Really the best thing is to lose the oversized tires back to stock and change driving habits.

Nope. Not gonna lose the tires. I'll deal with the prices at the pumps instead. I'm self employed, office in my house, so it's not like I have to drive far to work everyday.

Which ones do you recommend?
Airaid cold air intake, and Flowmaster 40.
Best price I found online for the airaid was at https://www.airaidsales.com/ with free shipping.

Are you serious? 3 bucks back in 90? What's it up to there now?

... And yet Exxon is recording record profits again.
... And yet Exxon is recording record profits again.
Exxon (and all the others) make a killing because they sell SO MUCH of their product. When it comes down to "profit per item sold" Exxon isn't making as much of a killing as most industries, they have provided the charts before, it just seems that way because we use so much oil.
It's true, America has lived in the "easy days" price wise, compared to nearly every other country. And now that we have more realistic prices as compared to the rest of the world, we have to look at other countries that have lower pump-prices than us.
I remember reading something like "Oh.. look at the prices in country X, they are paying 25cents per gallon! Why are we paying $2.75 here? PRICE GOUGING!" No, its probably because that was an oil-producing country. That, and, people there make about one-tenth as much as Americans do, so, obviously, do the math.
What's worse is, over all, its the people making a pretty good living that b!tches about gas prices. Their making $20-30/hr and they complain when they pay $3/gallon to fill up their SUV. Well, I hate to point it out to those morons... but, lets use common sense.
For the most part, other countries pay more for oil than we do (and have been, and even if they don't exactly pay more than we do [such as the 25cent example above] its probably because their currency is worth a LOT LESS) and we are lucky prices have stayed as low as they have for as long as they have.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "I would love to see $5.00 a gallon," because I would not (I'd love to see $1/gallon gas, just like everyone else), but we're finally seeing what the rest of the world has.
The oil companies will see their day, whether that will be 2 years, or 40 years down the road, demand for real-oil will, at some point down the road, decrease, in light of biodiesel and ethanol, and hydrogen and all the new stuff they will come up with.
All we can do is deal with it, like we have in years past. And, if oil goes down to record low prices, remember the high-priced days
.
Then explain why prices elsewhere havent risen as sharply as the US? Unlike back home, the US does have its own oil. The biggest problem is LACK OF REFINERIES. Due to some BS crap invilving the wonderfull EPA, there hasnt been a new refinery built in the US since the 70's. Price per barrel is all SPECULATION.

I remember paying 16 cents per gallon and driving a bored, balanced, and blueprinted '64 GTO getting 10 mpg.
