First Dakota
I recently bought a 2000 dakota 3.9, 5 speed, 4x4. I have noticed it is not as peppy as I thought it would be. I do not want to do headers, but I have thought of a high flow cat, cat back, chip, and cold air intake. I was wondering what everyone else was running in these categories and what they thought of them. Thanks for the help.
I had a 03 dakota v6 3.9L and did the CAI and Flowmaster 40 only to find it sounded better but still no pep....traded it in for a 04 dakota v8 4.7L and now I have the pep I wanted.....in short you can do mods on the V6 but you don't get much in return.
if you are doing a high flow cat...you may want to consider getting an o2 simulator/MIL delete....as for cat-back you have a myriad of choices(i prefer a custom bent one/not too expensive(i made my own)), and as for a chip/programmer.....its kinda hard to look for one(on my truck at least/4.7l) and for an intake.....just get the drop in K&N air filter.....get the best of both worlds and ditch the resonator and replace it w/ a straight pipe/bend(intake resonator ok)since you have a 5-speed i'd rather recommend a short throw shifter(if available) and a better clutch(if available), also if you really want a bit more pep to it....i'd say a 50 shot of nitrous won't hurt...just don't forget to change your spark plugs to 1 level cooler and retard your timing to atleast 2 deg/50 shot...never go over 75 shot on stock internals.....also you may also want to lower yout truck(i prefer belltech but i have a DJM 3/3 in mine/budget issues)
that's just my .02 cents though
