Default Exhaust w/ mods help

I recently had my mufflers cut out and replaced with straight pipe, bad move. I need a less restrictive exhaust.... Did this even help any? I mean I have a few mods like Superchips, CAI, fastman TB, TB Spacer, and all. I feel like its not doing much without a decent exhaust. I am scared to buy a $500 exhaust setup and it sound horrible like my straight pipes... I considered headers too...I just need a few mods to beat a friend of mine that's bugging me without having to gut out my heavy truck. I have alot of extra weight in it which is his advantage. Any other mods I should do? Any help GREATLY appreciated.

I would go strait for the 3" MagnaFlow cat back exhaust and just do it right.

That is what I had before I traded it in and got an 04, to make it simple when you go with strait pipe you lose your low end as I am sure you have noticed after trying a few different mufflers for sound and perf at the muffler shop it came down to these 2 choices.....tried the Flowmaster 50 (3 chamber muffler) it kept the low end of the stock muffler and gave a nice mellow sound, then they clamped on a Flowmaster 40 standard (2 chamber muffler) it was a bit meaner sounding and had a better low rumble I might of lost a bit low end but gained in the power band and I sure that would give better flow and gas mileage so that is what I went with....had them use the stock pipe just added the muffler and a nice 18" chrome tip out the rear in the same place as the stock pipe.....looked nice and sounded great......as the muffler guys pointined out with the V6 and 4 cyl. engines they need some back pressure to keep the low end and I didn't want a fart can sound....I was very happy with the results in fact at idle it sounded just like a V8.....hope this helps

Yesterday I went and got a 40 series put on and it sounds great, not too loud or anything. Now I just need some more bolt on's to add to my truck that I can hurry and so before I race my friend again ha.
