Default wiring harness and check engine light

Hi. I was wondering if anyone wanted to give me their opinion on a problem I am having w/my 2002 Dakota 4x4 4.7L V8. It keeps blowing the #8 fuse(PRNDL fuse)? Currently truck is at a Transmission shop close to where I live. They charge hourly to look at and diagnose. So far they have 2 hours in to it. I had told them the code that the dash gave me,(P1698) which tells me : No messages received from "Electronic Transmission Control Module or Aisin Transmission Controller". My dad thought that maybe that means we need to replace the "Transmission Range Sensor", but the Techs at Trans. Shop said they don't think that's it because they got underneathe and narrowed it down to the "Wiring Harness" , bad wire inside maybe"? They say when they jiggle the Harness a little it will blow a fuse or something along those lines. So they want more time to find the problem. They said they almost have the harness off so when they get it off and look inside they'll get more info they hope. I just don't want them charging me all this time hourly if it ends up being a sensor. Any input would help.

Real simple give them an hour to find a simple short if they don't fix it then you don't pay.....lock them into something.....other wise you will end up with a bill for hours and hours of them not knowing what they are doing and your truck will still not be fixed in the end.....in short I'd tell them I am not paying for a fishing trip....if they are not good enough to figure out the issue and repair it maybe they should refer it to a shop that specialises in electrical repairs.

i agree with lil. if it does indeed short when they jiggle the wire then they would be right about the harness but you shouldnt pay for a fishing expidition.
