So has any 1 ever had this happen to them. So i turn my truck on 1 day and the emissons lights on. I check under the hood and all that good stuff but to no prevail. I figure 1 of my 02 sensors might be starting to go (unfountly i dotn ahve a code reader so i had to take to dealer) the dealer told me i had a evap leack code. So i had them look fruther into it and 125 dollaers later i have me a brand new gas cap!!! lol. Apperntly if your gas cap seal is not sealing properly it sucks air in and messes with the sensors and what not..... i had never heard of such a thing i was stuck dumb lol. but ya now i no for next time!!! (oh ya and the truck was running perfectly fine)

 

I've mentioned it several times in here. EVAP small leak usually = gas cap not being on quite right. 99% of the time you can just take it off and put it back on and it'll be fine

 

and the other 99% of that 1% you can whack the gas cap around and free up the valve thing in there and it works again

 

sigh i feel like such a noob sniffles. lol i have never seen you mention that thought and i read threw quite alot of hte posts. I did how ever fill up 2s before takign it in thats 2 times of takeing cap off. but ya i leanred sometihng new at a nasty littel price lol

 

hmm. 2 tanks eh? Usually it goes away. It's possible that there really was something wrong with it.

 

yes sir. unfounrlty i didnt get to inspect it before it got replaced. I cant imagine the rubber gasket getting eatten up so soon its a 2003 and the gasket seems to be a decently sized gasket.

 

I had the same thing in an 02 Wrangler. Left the gas cap off after a fill up and light popped on. But I had to disconnect the battery to get her reset after I put the cap back on. The light didn't just go away.

 

I managed a full service 76/Citgo for 9 years. You got smacked in the face by a gas cap...you want a cookie? jah?

 

alls i gotta say is dam that was an expensive gas cap. lol if i put that money in for a cap that thing better put gas in my truck for me. lol

 

haha i hear ya on that it was 80 bucks at the dodge dealer to hook it up to the code reader alone. I was like **** i could have bought my own almost for that much owell.
