2.5 gets 8.66 mpg......Help!
Thanks again Horatio, and you're right...something is awry.
dodgerules.... I cought that kid once before. He took off runnin' and my son and his buddies cought up with him. He won't be stealing gas from around here anymore.
rhowe...How do I respond to that? What are you doing up that late anyhow?
ice9...For both our sakes I hope you're wrong. That sounds expensive.
titan2087...It's a '98. And your answer, along with some of the others, makes me realize how many possibilities there are. Looks like I'm going to have to put it in the shop. Will go talk to them tomorrow and will let you guys know when I have the answer. Maybe it will help someone else. Thanks again guys, Dave.

well i got the v6... when i first got it, got around 17-19 high dpended on how hard i hit the gas, but i threw in a k&n, and i use Lucas fuel injector/carb cleaner, sorta resembles motor oil, supposed to add mpg, has to. im getting like 22 highway now..
i think it has something to do with the way it breathes, or theres a leak in the gas line somewhere, or you have really really small tires.

Hades12...Both you and rhowe mentioned the 20 mpg range so that gives me an idea of what I should be getting. I don't remember exactly where the temp guage was setting, only that it was about normal. Will check it more closely tomorrow.
f0x672...I've used Lucas in each tankful since I've had the truck so I haven't checked it with & without. May try that when I solve the problem. How much did the K&N help? How well do they clean the air compared to a regular filter?
rhowe...Tires are normal size, no problem there. No leaks anywhere. You mentioned that it might have something to do with the way it breathes; can you go into more detail? Air cleaner looks ok.
Ice9...when you get your problem solved please let us know what it was.;
Another Idea...I was reading another forum (not Dodge specific) where someone asked about improving mpg. One of the guys said that his mileage went up a "few mpg" when he switched his manual trans fluid to synthetic. Have any of you guys tried syn, and did you see any diff. Seems like I read somewhere that syn is too slick for a manual shifter, and not a good idea.
Thanks once again, Dave.

yeah, use full synthetic every which way u can. its expensive but it will last longer, be slicker(provide more protection), slightly help hp and emissions(just like keeping your tires at good air pressure). and its expensive. but worth it. that won't fix your problem. i forget if you had hp issue's? did u check your cat? does it drive well? does the exhaust sound muffleled? if it does and your still getting that kind of mileage then try a diff gas station, i can't imagine what else it could be!? hope i didn't repeat if's and may be's ,but your truck sounds like my wife's sex drive(broken).
jk, i wish i had a twin(its a monster!) help!

rhowe...I didn't think the cat was a problem as it was replaced about 6 mos ago because the orig one failed smog, but now you have me wondering. It is an after market brand and I'm told some of them are not so good. The exhaust does not sound muffled and the cat doesn't rattle. If bad, will it seem muffled at all speeds, or just at high rpm speeds? Any other way to tell if one is going bad? Thanks for your help, Dave.
