2.5 gets 8.66 mpg......Help!
true, but when your cat goes its usually pretty obviouse ie: lack of power & engine sounds like it's sick. i have talked w/ many dakota owners who have had problems w/ their cats going out unusually early.
NOW THIS IS WIERD! On last fill up I noticed that the gas guage needle wasn't going down quite as fast, so I filled up again and found that I got 14.11 mpg. What the H..., this thing has a mind of it's own! This was driving around town w/the ac on; mostly 30-50 mph. And driving like an old man, which takes the fun out of it. Better than 8.66 for sure, but still not good enough.
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks Much, Dave

Just got back from the muffler shop. The guy said that if I brought it back when they weren't as busy they could run a backpressure test on the cat. BUT, after listening to it run, reving it up and feeling the exhaust he said I'd probably be wasting my money as he felt that it ran too good to be a cat problem. Thanks for your suggestions guys, but it seems the problem probably lies elsewhere. sdsdsd, I hope you find an answer to your problem also. Dave
oh, something must be clogged, i think something is clogged or mest up with mine because it should be getting better gas mileage also, but mine is V6.
u should put exhaust and air on it, lol I wonder how that 2.5L would sound?

I've got a 98 dakota with the 2.5L also, average, between HWY and city i get between 25 and 27 miles / gallon, and i do NOT drive very conservative. I haven't changed anything on it since i got it. . . as far as i know its' all stock
K&n helped big time.. im like 20-22 mpg highway... for the fact im doin 75-80 mph... but my milage goes to sh.. when im either trying to pass some schmuck or im climbing a hill... i need more power in this v6
