performance please
i have a 2003 qc 2wd w/ 5.9 and would like a little better performance. I only get 87 octane and I'm wondering what would be some good mods that dont require anything higher. i already have kn fipk and dynomax si/so 3' cat-back. i will not be doing heads, rockers, or cam but anything else i will take into consideration. what about ignition? i was thinking m1 intake w/ fastman tb and hypertech/superchips but am worried with out going to 91 octane these mods will do little for my truck especially the tune. Thanks in advance.
Trottle Body would be nice seeing you have the CAI and exhaust done.....chip means higher octane and you have ruled out doing other mods.....so unless you want to supercharge it or blow it up with nitrus.....hmmm.......I know drop in a Viper V10 hehe
Yeah being you are in Cali like me you know with all the ricers the CHP is cracking down big time on aftermarket mods with some heavy fines.....and so if you get pulled over for "any reason" they just might ask you to pop the hood and bam........thx ricers hehe
PS NorCal baby!

you can go along ways before bending the smog laws in Ca to much... but back to your question... the M1 is not smog legal in CA (I assume that's where your at based on lil's comments), you can however mod the stock intake to make it breath all the way up to 5500 or so rpms... it's time consuming but realatively easy to do with a rotozip.
couple of cheep mods for the 5.9... 180 t-stat (make sure you drill a real small hole in the diaphram for when you fill it back up) there is a crank sensor mod you can do to adjust the timing on it, you may have to adjust it a little to find the spot that does not ping on 87.
run synthetics front to back, small (very small) gains but the benifit will out weigh the cost (just like 91 octane chevron).
welcome to DF...
