Looking For Quick Input: '99 vs. 2000 Dakotas
Hey guys ... it's been awhile sence I've been on here. I'm still driving around in my '99 Dakota SLT, Ext. Cab, 4x4, 5.2 V8 (w/ ~80,000 miles) ... however I was thumbing thru the paper last night, and I found someone who has a 2000 SLT Quad-Cab, 4x4, 4.7 V8 (w/ ~90,000) with a 5-spd. He's looking to dump this truck off because of the higher gas prices. He's asking $9700 for it ... and If I remember right, I paid about $9,200 for mine when I bought it last year, so there's not too much difference in price.
So really, I'm asking your opinions on swapping out Dakotas; here's my weighing contingencies, what do you guys think?
A) I do mostly Highway drivng, so the 4.7 w/5-spd should get what for gas mileage vs. the 5.2 auto???
B) My '99 has 10,000 less miles on the motor, and a powertrain warrenty upto 105,000 miles vs. the 90,000 miles and no warrenty on the 4.7
C) The 2000 is a little bit more money, but has the full back seat, 5-spd (which I like), Rhino-lined bed, and new tires (which I'm going to need shortly)
D) The downside is, If I pick this truck up, I'll be making 2 Truck-Payment until I can sell mine ... has anyone tried selling a truck in todays market??
Anywho - I just thought I'd throw this out there and see what kind of thoughts, comments, or opinions I could pick-up before I go look at the truck ... Oh, anything to be wary of on the 2000's ??
Thanks in advance everyone.

Left brain says, "hey, life is short, buy the 2000 and worry about selling the 99 later" but right brain says "you got a good truck with a good warranty, and everyone else is looking for a 4.7 too so you'll have trouble dumping the 99 5.2 so keep it"
Plus you want to buy a "new" Dak that will turn 100k miles in just 10k miles???

I get much better gas mileage in my 4.7 than most get with the 5.2/5.9's hwy 20-21mpg and on the buying the 2000 well I don't go for high mile used trucks as a rule......I had a 03 bought new off the lot traded it in and bought a 04 used for a few reasons....I wanted the newest Gen 2 truck there is....so went for the 04, I had a V6 and wanted a V8....also wanted as low on the miles I could get......it was not much more than what you are looking to pay with a full warranty tossed in by the dealer on top of the drive train warr. from DC....now I know I will stick with this truck for years to come.
I'd stick with the '99. That '00 gots a few more miles than yours has, and, you'd probably have a hard time selling your '99.
My 2cents.

Thanks for all the input ( a little delay in responce on my part ) ... and I've pretty much agreed with all of ya ... just not worth the extra money and hastle to swap right now. And like it was mentioned, I know mines a good truck ... the other one I'm not so sure on, so I'll keep what I have.
