head unit
i was wondering if there are certain head units you have to buy that would fit into a truck. i am lookin to get a new head unit and new speakers. is there anyway i can just fir a regular head unit into my 02 dakota slt?
you can put any head unit into any vehicle as long as the head unit is not larger than the available space. if you want to make it a do-it-yourself job, the easiest way is to get your head unit and take it with you to a Best Buy or other car audio dealer. they will have custom wiring and mounting kits specific for your vehicle. that way you can put in any head unit you would like and make it work. i also think if you go to Best Buy and purchase the kits there, they will do the install for a very reasonable price. let us know how it works out.
ya i work at best buy and i work in the mobile audio section "car fi" we carry TONS of parts that will fit your truck, useally the stock radio is a 2 din meaning it takes up 2x 1 din spots, aftermarket head units useally only take 1din, the part you need is a dash kit about 20 bucks that adds a pocket or a blank spot over the 2nd din and allows you to fit the single din head unit in the spot. You also need a wire harness for the aftermarket radio. The headunit comes with a part that plugs to the back of the head unit, the wire harness that you needs wires into that part and plugs into your stock connections. You dont need a harness but it makes it easy in the long run if you ever want to put your stock radio back in so you dont have to cut any stock wires or anything. Best buy will only install it with a harness becuase we offer lifetime warrenty on our installs, and if you ever want to put the stock radio back in all we have to do is unplug the harness and BAM your stock is back in with no cut wires, at most best buys if you purchase a deck through them $99 and up they will install it for free with basic installation. Which means you need to buy the parts, the dask kit and waire harness with tax and everything they come out to a total of 40 for the parts. If you dont get the deck from them they charge about 50 bucks to install it.
but like virus said you can put pretty much any type of deck you want in it, as long as it doesnt take up more space then what you have already. Thats when custom parts come into play and they cost alot more and are harder to install.

I want it free man! No but seriously I don't know when I would even be able to get that done I've got a big move in a few weeks. I'm moving to Reno in the end of September I can't wait but I will be broke after it is all said and done. [:@]
What I really want is some speakers that would fit in my doors but not the factory infinitys and then a sub or two and a custom box to put them on the wheel wells if that's even possible with how shallow they are and of course a deck and amp that could handle it all. I don't know squat about audio so I would propably take suggestions on that.
