yeah you have to be careful though, if you open up the intake or exhaust too much, mileage will go down.

RE: air intake kits and higher mpg???
depends on the change... I had 3 or 4 different setups on my 2000 5.9 motor and some lost, some gained. one example is when I had the dual out flowmaster setup... dual 2.5" out's lost me 1.0~1.25 mpg along with low end torque. closed it down to dual 2.25" and got 1.0 mpg back along with some low end torque. still flowed pretty good for the upper end. I also took the stock cone filter off my K&N intake kit and put a bigger filter on it (6" dia x 9" long) and also lost some low end & mpg. it sure did scream up top though. each change I tracked mileage over a longer period of time... some as short as 1000 miles, others over several thousand.
it only takes 200~300 miles for it to make it's adjustments...

the loss usually comes due to a universal kit. if you are running a product, whether it be exhaust, intake, cam, tb, ect, and it is not designed specifically for your vehicle, you are definately risking a drop in hp, mpg and torque. in my original post on this topic i stated and "decent" intake/exhaust combo. i was being too general. what i meant to say is if you do a little research, you will be able to find dyno results from any repuitable manufacturer with different combinations of their products. doing this will ensure you will find the setup that will produce the best end results for your application.
