Default oil pressure gauge acting silly

[:@] I have a gauge that acts speradically.I had it replaced at the dealership about a month after i bought it.It appeared to take care of the problem but 8 mounths later it is doing it again.Ive only put 3000 on the truck since ive owned it and already put 2 oil changes on it.the thing thats bugging me is i talked to a co-worker who had a 2001 dakota and it did the same thing. The gauge sits right at low pressure then will jump to high or sometimes sit at 1/2.Just trying to find out a little info if anyone had something like this happen to there truck.oil pump,gauge,electrical?????????????63m on odometer

As long as your not going down to no pressure it's fine. That's just the nature of this beast.

rhowe, thats the problem it dosnt go up and down with the rpm.you could have the rpm at 3000 rpm and sometimes it sits at dead low then drive down the road 10 minuts and it goes to 1/2 oil pressure gauge?????????? thanks

hey meen green ,i cant believe this oil pressure gauge will not move according to my rpm.I can take it up to 3000 rpm and the gauge sits on low pressure.then i can drive down the road 15 min later and it will jump up to 1/2.I never had a vehicle that a gauge worked in this manner.I just changed the oil (1500 mile oil change )when i start it it goes to high(good thing)but it seems when it warms up or i get some miles on the motor the gauge goes nuts.sometimes low ,medium,or high back and forth????????? thanks Im getting ready to take it to the dealership and im worried about getting the big bill.I got a warrenty but they cant tell me if its covered if its a sensor go figure 9 million dollar sensor.Iguess i should put a pressure gauge on it to get an accurate diagnosis?what do you think?

I had the same problem and it took two trips to the dealership to convince them this wasn't "normal". It was a faulty oil pressure sending unit. Sounds like yours has failed a second time.
Also, is the oil at the correct level? I had some crazy readings on my Jeep guage after a visit to Jiffy Lube and when I checked the oil level it was nearly a quart too high! After draining the excess oil the guage started working correctly again....just a thought.

I guess that is a problem then, the oil pressure on my D is pretty wild going up and down but it's all determined by how many rpm's I'm running. Like old said maybe you got a lousy part I would try a new one maybe...
