Default license plate

I have been having problems w/ where my license plate is located. I drive in the mountains quite a bit. Several times when i've turned in tight situations i've lost my plate. I am fortunate to have seen my plate lying on the road before i lost it. i was just wondering if anyone has moved the plate to a different location. I was thinking of moving it to the center of the grill somewhere. I would like to make the new location look decent. quick ties to the grill would not look good. anyone w/ ideas or pictures.

I removed the big plastic bracket and then used the lower holes to bolt the plate directly to the bumper, then I rolled the plate to match the angle of the bumper. It isn't legal per se, but I haven't had any troubles because of it.

The problem i'm having is w/ the plastic bracket making contact w/ underbrush or sometimes w/ the road causing the whole bracket to come straight off.
Horatio 102 - is it illegal to put the license plate on the way you have it? Just wondering because i don't want any hassles w/ the local P.D.

May wanna get some bolts and use some fenderwashers behind the bumper to strengthen it up. Mine came off after hitting a snowbank. Put it back on with bolts and washers and can literally tag things with it and not rip it off.

Plates have to be readable from a certain distance (dpeending on state). Here you get pulled over with a plate in the window. They HAVE to be mounted to teh front of teh vehicle (unless you own a vette or other GM car with those recessed plate mounts. They seem to not be bothereed by the local PD).

I wouldnt recommend putting it in the grille. You'll block airflow and possibly cause overheating issues.

Yeah don't block the radiator - the frontal area is small enough as it is - trying to cool a full size truck's motor with a compact sized radiator.... somethingsomething needs all the help it can get

Is it illegal? Yes. Why? Because according to WA state law the plate MUST be mounted between X and Y distances from the ground (I'm ok there) AND it must be perpendicular to the ground, so it's completely vertical. Mine's not. I can take some pics later to show you, but mine's more or less good enough. The angle isn't all that noticeable, especially if you aren't drawing too much attention otherwise.

I've got Hella Rallye 4000 9" diameter lights mounted on the roof rack on my canopy, a 48" blue CB fiberglass whip mounted to the hood, and a louder than stock muffler and nobody's mentioned a problem with the plate yet.

Putting it in the windshield violates all kinds of laws, and it's unsafe. In a wreck it becomes a thin metal projectile in the cockpit at about face level. Not my idea of a good time.

Yeah, I'll take some pics. I do have to pound my plate back into shape though. I forgot it got mangled by a sheet of re-tread at 70mph - skidmarks on the plastic bumper, cracked my grille, dented the oil cooler/tranny cooler/A/C heat exchanger/radiator. [:@]
