Default Intake Replacement

Here is a pic of my intake, i have ram air so the tube going up is for my hood scoops.

If i replace the tube going from the back of the box to the TB with a chrome tube with heat wrap around it how much of a diffrence would it make, im running really rich right now, and i need better air flow. Im getting a 55mm TB later. Also if i replaced the black cap over the TB with a smaller chrome cap.

if i were you, i would expand the pipe going from the hood to your intake box to create a larger volume of air. please work with me on this diagram:

your pipe whats needed

...|...|...............|...|.....
...|...|............../.....\....
...|...|.............|.......|...
...|...|.............|.......|...
...|...|..............\...../....
...|...|...............|...|.....

what this actually does is create a larger pocket of cool air inside your intake plumbing, allowing for greater flow at high rpm, and perfect for quick "shots" in the throttle. if you could actually widen the diameter of piping at the collector and at the box, it would also allow for increased cfm of air.

as far as the piping, and the shoe over your tb, i would leave the shoe stock, unless you know someone who can fabricate a bigger one, not smaller one like you stated originally. the piping could definately use some improvements. the stock piping from the tb to the air box, is terrible at allowing air to flow freely. you would want to replace the piping with some abs piping possibly, or even the "chrome tube" would work as long as the diameter is larger. once again, creating the larger pocket, like i showed above with the terrible diagram, would create the best numbers. heat wrapping the pipe would be your best way to ensure the intake air temp would be staying as low as possible. (dont forget to mount your IAT sensor the same distance away from your TB that it is stock)

with the air box, i would say scrap it and start from scratch. go down to auto zone and get the largest flat k&n filter they make. then create a box around that filter, using as much space inside the engine bay as possible to create a huge resuviour of air your motor can access easily and efficiently. this may raise the intake air temp a few degrees by the time it hits the intake manifold, but the gains of pure mass of air will be well worth it.

i would do the same to mine, but i only have the 3.9 and as the motto goes: "you can turbo a piece of ****, but it's still a piece of ****"

***sorry had to "fix" my POS diagram***

thx for the info. When i get off work ill go to "the zone" and check some **** out. I really think if i can fix that intake and replace the TB it would give me a BIG diffrence. The only thing that i need now is some money lol.

i took out my tubing from the airbox to the tb and replaced it w/ an aluminum pipe and if any thing it probaly hurts preformance because the alum piping gets hott!! def. shrink rap it if you use a metal pipe.

use thermo-tec insulating tape on it, or a loose type of insulation that can be sealed so the heat cant get to it. this will help alot to prevent heat soaking and will provide better off the line performance in stop & go traffic.
