Default thermostat, 97 dak, 5.2

can I remove the thermostat without taking anything else off? looks like I might be able to. Or do I have to loosen the alt and ac to do it?
looked at my online chiltons, but , hard to belive, there is no search funtion!

you should be able to access it without removing any other components.

you may have to yank a bracket off that goes from the a/c to the intake manifold, or from the alt to intake... I forget which it is. beyond that if your careful not to drop the bolts down into the front of the motor you should be good to go...

I recommend using a genuine dodge gasket, it has silicone already in the gasket material so yo dont have to add any during installation. you should also use a 180 deg t-stat and drill a very small hole in the diaphram to allow air to escape during fillup.

Thx for the info Virused/Steve. But wont drilling a hole in the diaphram degrade the effectiveness of the t-stat? Or at the very least make it not last very long?

not at all, been doing it for years and have had only 1 problem when i drilled the hole too big. if it's too big your warmup time takes longer and it may throw a code. the hole only needs to be big enough for air to escape.
