Default Rattling

There's a rattle around my catalytic converter, I got it up on the hoist and it looks like its in good shape. The exhaust looks alright too, anyone got any ideas? I've heard the converters on this truck go out easily, but i just want to make sure before I drop about 400 bucks.

I bet I have the same rattle. Does it get louder when you put it in park and just sit there idling?

There is a guy on ebay that has magnaflow cats for 55 + shipping.

Yo0u might want to just make sure it is the converter and not something that is loose. It could be something loose that may just need to welded back into place.

make sure that it is the cat before you go spending money on a new cat. if you have the truck up on a hoist, give the exhaust a shake and see if you can replicate the noise. it may be as simple a a broken hanger.

yeah I'm gonna take it to get checked out this weekend, i'd like to get a 40 series flowmaster w/a chrome tip I think they quoted me 120 w/labor, don't want to spend much more. That damn noise does get louder in park and reverse. Makes the truck sound like crap.

I am damn sure its my cat. I have crawled under the truck and the noise is coming right from the cat. I can't replicate the noise with the truck off and see no broken/hanging/loose parts.

i had the cat go out on my truck. sounds like its a pretty frequent problem on these trucks. i talked to the guy that i bought the truck from and he replaced it free of charge. i dunno if he found some recall on it or what but. free sounds good to me. but yeah mine was loud when it was in park, ideling, or in reverse. makes it sound like crap. sounds like theres a rock bouncing around in there. well thats basicly what it is. the honeycomb filter in the cat breaks off and just bounces around in there. but sounds like u guys had what i had

mine was a classic case of the muffler rusting out. the cat will start coming apart eventually and when it does, you will hear the noise you are describing. my advice is to get a new muffler/cat. your best bet is to buy them off of ebay (to save yourself some $$$ on parts) then head over to that shop and have them do the labor.
