well i was driving my truck today and noticed that only when i accelerate i get a ticking noise coming form the passenger side of the engine. so i got home left the truck running, looked under the hood and messed with the throttle a bit to see if i could hear it again and see if i could find it. but no luck. i then decided to drive it again to see if i could hear it and it was gone. i thought it was weird and im not to sure what it is. ne one think they know?
my 3.9 ticks at idol.. its either the timing chain or the valve clearance between the rocker arm and the valve stem... comes and goes.. you probabally have something similar.. what size is your motor?... the 3.9, 5.2, and 5.9 are pratically similar
Wait ok I didn't notice you said when you accelerate, mine does the same thing. Right when I hit the gas it ticks, I thought it was just something in my glove compartment rattleing around but nothing was their that would.
One of my friends 2000 Dodge Dakota truck has a ticking sound and he said when he changed the oil the sound went away for a little bit. He thinks his oil pump is going out and th ticking is when the oil is at the bottom.
I have a small ticking/knocking noise, i found out where it was comming from, its my water pump pulley, its a little wobbly so it makes that sound, i havent botherd to fix it.
Does it do it all the time, or just when you accelerate?? Could be an exhaust leak where the manifold connects to the head or where the y pipe connects to the manifold. I would check those first.
