Towing

RE: Towing
We were nervous installing a 5th wheel hitch in a full size shortbed. Even then some trailers swung AWFULLY close to the cab on a 6' bed. Theres some that extend the hitch rearward, bit those are designed for backing trailers in so you can jack-knife them in to tight spots. The kingpin is supposed to be slightly in front of the rear axle when being towed. But why toss $1200 into a 5th wheel hitch just to tow an extremly small trailer? BTW smallest 5th wheel camper trailer I seen was a 26' and was about 5500lbs alone. Thats without you, family and gear.
If you MUST have a 5th wheel, it would be best to get a full size with a 6' shortbed min. Otherwise look for a tag camper and invest in a weight distributing hitch (which is a damn good idea for any trailer over 2500lbs with a dakota.)
