Default Wiper delay

I had drove home the other day using the windshield wipers for the first time this season, I has it on intermittent, low and high then off when I parked at home for the night, the next morning they were still off but started going about 3-4 times across the window then stopped midway and just sat there, so I turned them off and on. All the way to work they kept starting and stopping even though they were off so I kept messing with the switch but still it would ever so often activate like an intermittent problem. Once at work I turned the key off and on 3 times and no codes, it has been 3 days and it has not once done this again. Has anyone had this happen and if so what was the issue you found at the root cause? thx in advance
