? about my '99 dak
good morning first off
but i am confused about a few thing with this dakota
first off it is a extended cab 4x4 with the 5.2 and a 5 speed
what are the stock tires sizes for these trucks ?
i bought it and it has 32x11.50's but the door pillar says like a 225/70/15 or something like that
secondly what size gas tank comes in these things
i read in JD power's that the 4 cyl came with 15 gallon and the 3.9's with 18's ,
do the 5.2's all have 22 gallon tanks ?
i dont want to take a trip thinking i have the capacity of 22 gallon (owners manual says optional)and only have 18 ,the gas light comes on at about 1/8th tank and i have yet to get over 18.6 gallon into it
hopefully i am not sounding like a J/A asking this but i am very curious
i love this truck it is the first dodge truck i have ever owned and it is awsume ,all the power i need and some to spare 10mph rolling smoke runs in posi and can haul a ton of stone and not even know its there
1 more thing ,second gear is kinda week in this thing hard to shift in the cold and it grinds sometimes when down shifted .
will a 5 speed out of a full size fit into this or will i have to find a manual from a dakota?
thanx in advance

RE: ? about my '99 dak
31x10.5 would be a stock size, and if you've got the 4x4 that's probably what it had originally.
2nd gear grinding sounds like the synchro is going away. I'd flush the fluid and put a good synthetic in it, one without the limited slip friction modifiers. It should be the same transmission as the full sized trucks use iirc. Crawl underneath and check for the trans ID tag.

then i do not have to use dodge's spendy tranny oil?
what synthetic fluid should i use for it ?
i do know they replaced the clutch/throw out bearing and pressure plate before i bought it because the gentleman that owned it before me had a center force clutch kit installed and for some reason it was not installed correctly and had nothing wouldnt move or engage so they put everything stock back in it ,but i havent a clue if they changed fluid ,most likely just topped it off if any was lost
But i will investigate and change the fluids hopefully it will be fine till i can get a replacement and decent weather to swap it out ,I do all my own work like that

According to dodgeparts.com the 99 dakotas came with the AX15 (4 and 6 cyl) and the NV3500 in V-8s and possibly v6 4x4's. Ok the rams came with a NV3500, NV4500 and NV5600. You'd have to check the ID tags.
I don't recall what Dodge specs for tranny fluid, so you may want to check the manual and see what type and grade of oil they recommend, then get whatever meets or excedes those requirements.
