Hello everyone! This is a great forum with a lot of great information and I'm in need of some help.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Sport extended cab (NOT a 4 door) with the 3.9L V6. The driver's side power window and I are having issues. The other night I went to roll the window down and it made a really bad cracking noise and stop working. The motor still worked but the window didn't go up or down. The window actually began to creep down as I drove down the road. I opened up the door to find that the window regulator (mechanical assembly) had come off track and in the process it had ripped off the two black clips that are glued to the actual window itself. I called the dealer and they want $170 for the regulator and $175 for the glass. Is there another way I can fix this? I was also shocked at the price for the regulator or is this because it has power windows?

sounds like your regulator is fine. try using a two-part epoxy to place the clips back in place. be sure to use plenty of it and let it cure.

 

my friend has a 2000 dakota that had the same problem. we tried an epoxy and it only held for a few weeks before it just let go of the glass. open the door panel and use some light grain sand paper to rough up the contact area of the glass, you should only have to do a tiny section. THEN use the epoxy. if it happened to me i would probably attempt to use the glue to attach the rear view mirror, but i dont know how well that would stick to the plastic clip. another thought: see if the dealer sells the glue they used to attach it..

 

Mine did the same thing last year. It is a 2000 model. Driver side window. I just cleaned the glass and the clips very good then used a two part epoxy to glue them back together. After I glued them I rolled up the window all the way and left it that way for about two days to fully cure. Never had a problem since.
