Default stranded on the way home

well i took my girlfriend home at about 3 and its been sleeting all day long here and well on the way home i realised i was flooring my truck and i was running 50 and loosing speed. then i got out and looked and my *custom* ram air intake the little screen thing i had over the front of it was completely full of ice and it choked my engine i pulled the cover off it so it could breathe again and went home but i got to fabricate some piece for it because the opening for the intake is behind the grill and it has that screen on the intake i need a piece that i can like clip on the grill right there to block snow/ice etc... but is removeable so i can get the full ram air effect in the summer but i cant figure out what to make it out of

O ****.. ya tht sucks, ive flooded my ram air before. I was foing donuts in the rain and the rpms got to high and sucked in all the water like a vacuum and i my truck died for about 10 min, i had to go disconect my ram air tube from my hood and run to a sonic to let it dry out.. lol.. it sucked... my friends focus would always die in the rain he had the filter to low to the ground and it would catch more water then air.

yeah thats why i have mine positioned to where water has to go through a couple bends and it turns upward so it would have to climb the tube i've driven through heavy rain and nothing ever gets wet more than a couple inches inside the tube the little filter over the end stops most of it but i'll tell you what when i was figuring on how to install it i took it all into consideration and i thought i had a great design but i completly forgot about ice it just froze shut and then CHOKE no air *dies*

on my cai the intake hose that is directly behind the grill is removable. so for heavey rain days i tuck it inside the fender.

Better re-route the intake.

17 yr old neighbor kid put something like that on (circa 1992). Intake came out in a spoiler vent on his 85 or 86 camaro. Told him not to put it facing forwards that low. That whole "3hp" isnt worth the possibility of ruining the motor by hydrolocking it. (we are in an area that the roads to this neighborhood do flood quite a bit and usually you drive through water 6" deep after a good rain). He said water cant hurt a running motor. Well his dad came over one night and asked if I could help him tow his car home. The camaro died after going through a "puddle" Got it back into the garage, looked at teh block and theres a couple chucks missing. He said it died on him going through the puddle and when he tried to restart it made a bang sound and then tried it again. Pulled the heads and sure enough there was water in some cylinders. Every rod was bent. Hard way for a kid to learn a lesson. Laughed at him when he put it on claiming that the ram air (because he thought that just by facing it forward, thats how ram air works.) will give him 50 more hp. Too bad the internet wasnt big then like it is now or I'd have him read this....How ram air works. Any time I had the hood of the Shelby up he came over to look and ask how much power he could get out of the 305 in his camaro. Never even listened. I guess his friends (some of which didnt own a car) knew more about cars than someone who raced them for a living. Granted when I was 17 I didnt know a con rod from a roller rocker nor even cared, but I did ask the team mechanics and listened to them about what they were doing and why.

BTW make an extension that you can slip over the intake but faces down. That should keep the inlet free of ice. Still will draw cold air in.

yeah i know all about that i already tore my engine up from that but it was before i customised the ram air i took it hardcore mudding and water was going everywhere and it sucked up and it was like a brick on top of the piston and bent a rod. the air intake isnt really for horsepower for me though its just that my truck gets 17-18 miles per gallon with it and 14-16 without it
